Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine. There are two main types of bowel disease ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes inflammation and sores(ulcers) in the lining of the large intestine. It usually affects the lower section and the rectum. But it can affect the entire colon Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus.Signs and symptoms often include abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody if inflammation is severe), fever, and weight loss.Other complications may occur outside the gastrointestinal tract and include anemia, skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, and feeling tired. The skin rashes may be due to infections as well as pyoderma gangrenosum or erythema nodosum. Bowel obstruction also commonly occurs and those with the disease are at greater risk of bowel cancer. Symptoms of bowel diseases include
- pain, cramps or swelling in the tummy
- recurring or bloody diarrhoea
- weight loss
- extreme tiredness
Weight loss surgery has been shown to be the most effective and durable treatment for obesity.Patients may lose as much as 60 percent of excess weight six months after surgery, and 77 percent of excess weight as early as 12 months after surgery. And on average, five years after surgery, patients maintain more than 50 percent of their excess weight loss.In addition to its many health benefits, bariatric surgery can help to improve patient’s overall mood and psychological health.Obesity-related complications are generally related to weight therefore the surgically induced weight loss can be associated with improvement in these obesity-related complications. In fact, as little as three percent weight loss with lifestyle changes can be associated with a reduction in risk for metabolic and cardiovascular disease, compared with bariatric surgery weight loss figures well over 30 percent.weight loss surgery helps to improve many obesity related health conditions, including:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Sleep apnea

A laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, commonly called a lap-band, A band, or LAGB, is an inflatable silicone device placed around the top portion of the stomach to treat obesity, intended to slow consumption of food and thus reduce the amount of food consumed.Dr Paul is the only surgeon in Kerala with accreditation from American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and is the only one from the state to have completed their accredited Fellowship training programme.

Gastric Bypass is a surgery that alters the GI tract to cause food to bypass most of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine.
Sleeve Gastrectomy (Vertical gastrectomy) is an operation that removes a large portion of the stomach and, in doing so, causes weight-loss. The remaining stomach is narrow and provides a much smaller reservoir for food.
Commonly referred to as ‘key hole surgery’.The ethos of laparoscopic surgery is to undertake the same operation through laparoscopic ports or ‘key holes’ rather than through a conventional big incision. This translates to lesser pain and early recovery while achieving the same results. In this procedure, 5–10 mm diameter instruments (graspers, scissors, clip applier) can be introduced by the surgeon into the abdomen through trocars.
The laparoscopic services we provide include:
- GASTROOESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE(GORD)
- HIATUS HERNIA
- INGUINAL AND ABDOMINAL WALL HERNIA
- ACHALASIA CARDIA
- DIAGNOSTIC AND STAGING LAPAROSCOPY
General surgery is the treatment of injury, deformity, and disease using operative procedures.Areas of the body treated by general surgery include the stomach, liver, intestines, appendix, breasts, thyroid gland, salivary glands, some arteries and veins, and the skin. The brain, heart, eyes, and feet, to name only a few, are areas that require specialized surgical repair.
We provide treatment for abdominal pain, hernia, appendicitis,
gall bladder diseases, bowel diseases. Surgical procedures usually take two hours or less and involve minimal blood loss and a short recovery time. In the majority of surgical cases, oral medications control postoperative pain. Cataract removal, laparoscopy, tonsillectomy, repair of broken bones, hernia repair, and a wide range of cosmetic procedures are common same-day surgical procedures.
Our objective is to provide world class healthcare to our patients.
At present, some centres in India have the capability to provide the same level of treatment delivered in developed countries at a lower cost. But as in many other countries there is no uniformity or standardisation in the provision of healthcare in India.
Our aim is to provide the same level of care, following the same international guidelines by doctors with multinational training and expertise. We hope to provide consultations without the hassle of going to a hospital, in the convenience and privacy of our clinic in a patient friendly environment. Our approach is to explain the rationale of our treatment so that the patients are equal partners in their care. We will treat our patients with dignity and honesty.
